Aldershot Area Information Aldershot is situated in north east Hampshire within a bend of the Blackwater river which forms the county boundary between Surrey and Hampshire. Aldershot was for many centuries a small hamlet close to one of the oldest trackways in England. During the late 19th century Aldershot underwent enormous expansion when the Army established a garrison there. Aldershot is known as the home of the British Army. The Army still retain a high profile in the towns history although with excellent communication routes the towns commercial and industrial diversification continues. Aldershot is situated on the A31 linking Guildford and Winchester. The Blackwater valley relief road (A331) provides quick and easy access to the M3 jct.4. Aldershot is located on the main railway line to Waterloo, a journey of only fifty minutes. Immediately bordered by Farnham, Farnborough and Fleet. The larger towns/cities of Woking, Guildford, Basingstoke and Camberley are just beyond. Aldershot town centre provides an extensive range of shopping facilities including Marks and Spencer, Woolworth’s Boots and W H Smith. There are also plenty of recreational and cultural activities including The West End Centre (theatre), The Princes Hall (theatre), the Kings Church, Aldershot Town FC and public houses to suit all tastes! |
